About Owen

This blog is dedicated to our little sunshine angel Owen. We named him Owen because it means little warrior and we knew he would have to be with two older brothers. He was our little sunshine and his heart stopped beating unexpectedly on his 5 month birthday. We are devastated by the loss of our little guy. Hopefully, this blog will give readers a sense of what a beautiful spirit he was, how he completed our family and will help to keep his memory alive. We hope this gives light into our grieving process and can help other families that suffer a similar tragic loss.

Participate on Tuesday, February 12th

To join Owen's global birthday party, we recommend the following :

  1. Purchase 10 or less biodegradable, latex balloons. Latex is 100% biodegradable, as it is a natural product of rubber tree sap, it breaks down when exposed to the elements of nature. Research shows that under similar environmental conditions, latex balloons will biodegrade at about the same rate as a leaf from an oak tree.
  2. Why only 10? Currently the states of Connecticut, Florida, Tennessee, Virginia, & California have laws in effect dealing with balloon releases, requiring that you use latex balloons releasing 10 balloons at the most at one time. Legislation is pending in Massachusetts and New York.
  3. Visit your local grocery store or florist to fill your latex balloons with helium.
  4. Attach an index card on each balloon with your note to Owen. Examples can be of how you are inspired by Owen's sunshine to live life to the fullest each day.
  5. Please also include this blog URL on your index card : SunshineForOwen.blogspot.com, so we can invite new friends to join in Sunshine for Owen.
  6. On Tuesday, February 12th, please take a picture of your balloon(s) and post them to this blog, and/or the event invite including your city, state and country!
